ALK currently has five different tablet-based vaccines in clinical development. Four of those are based on standardized natural allergens as active ingredient. The 5th is a tablet for cat allergy based on recombinant allergens (allergens produced using industrialized methods).
In our selection of these allergens, the tablet program covers the three most significant outdoor allergens in Europe and the USA (grass, tree and ragweed pollen) and the two most important indoor allergens in the world (house dust mites and cat).
Moreover, development activities have been initiated with a view to developing the next generation of tablet-based allergy vaccines. With the addition of other active ingredients as a supplement to allergens, the goal is to achieve a more rapid onset of effect and possibly a further improvement in the tolerability profile, as well as to retain the high clinical effect.
