Research & Development at ALK

In 2006, ALK launched GRAZAX® – the first registered allergy tablet to address the underlying cause of grass allergy. This was a turning point in the company’s history as it marked the start of an exciting future with tablet based home treatments as a new supplement to injection and droplet-based vaccines.

Our current focus is to develop additional tablet-based treatments for tree and ragweed pollen allergy, house dust mite allergy and cat allergy. We are also developing scientific models that will lead to a better understanding of the immunological mechanisms of allergy and of vaccination therapy. This knowledge can be actively applied in the design of the next generation of allergy vaccines. These aim to be even more convenient and effective.

ALK will to continue to focus on the treatment of allergy through immunomodulation (changes in the immune system), and the strategy is to develop user-friendly alternatives making it possible to offer allergy treatment to far more patients than those currently receiving conventional injection-based allergy vaccination.
