The Preventive Allergy Treatment Study (PAT)

As the first prospective long-term study (10 years) in children with hay fever, the PAT study confirmed a long time scientific belief that allergy immunotherapy with Alutard SQ® early in the disease development can reduce the risk of developing the life threatening disease asthma in children suffering from allergic rhinitis due to grass and/or birch pollen allergy.

Allergic rhinitis is a major risk factor for later development of asthma. In the PAT study, 45% of children with allergic rhinitis NOT treated with Alutard SQ® developed asthma.

The main result from the PAT study was that the risk of developing asthma decreased by approximately 50 percent in the group of children treated with Alutard SQ®.

The 10-year follow up results from PAT were published in the August 2007 issue of "Allergy".
