Every year more than 500,000 people go to the emergency room due to a reaction to insect stings.
Insect allergies are a serious medical threat, however only a small percentage of patients understand what steps to take if they are stung by a wasp, bee, hornet, yellow jacket or ant.
ALK-Abelló, Inc. has developed a program to help physicians, Emergency Department staff and patients to better understand how to deal with allergies and reactions to stings. The program is comprised of Emergency Department staff education, patient education, and a program to assist in the referral of patients to Allergy Specialists.
If you are a member of an Emergency Department interested in participating in this program, you will receive the ED education poster, patient education materials to be distributed to patients, and easy-to-use referral information to facilitate follow-up care for patients.
If you are an Allergy Specialist interesting in participating in this program, you will receive referrals of patients in need of specialized medical care for their insect venom allergies. You, the Allergy Specialist, and your practice will be the specialist of record for venom allergic patients in your area. The referral network, created by Allergy Specialists across the US will simplify the referral process for both the emergency department and the patient. Furthermore, the network will ensure that patients receive the follow-up care they need.
Together, we can decrease the number of unnecessary deaths and reactions from insect allergies.
