Milestones in the history of ALK 

 

 

2007
ALK-Abelló signs two partnership agreements for the tablet vaccine programme: One with Menarini for selected European markets and one with Schering-Plough for North America.

Grazax® is launched in Europe.

2006
Grazax®, a tablet-based immunotherapy, is approved in Europe.

2005
The ingredients sector of Chr. Hansen Holding is sold and ALK-Abelló becomes a listed company.

ALK-Abelló enters France by acquiring Allerbio.

Research cooperation leads to the establishment of a new company, T-Shift A/S. The newly-established company is owned jointly by ALK-Abelló A/S (35%), Copenhagen University Hospital (35%) and NOVI Innovation A/S (30%).


2004
ALK-Abelló A/S files an application with the Swedish authorities for the registration of the tablet against grass pollen allergy.

ALK outsources its engineering tasks to NNE A/S. The tasks include work within development and support of ALK-Abelló’s production, primarily in Hørsholm.

ALK-Abelló enters the Chinese market, where Alutard® SQ house dust mite has been approved by the Chinese health authorities and the first patients have started treatment. By the end of 2004, 16 allergy clinics were established.
 

2002
ALK-Abelló begins preparations for a separate listing on the stock exchange. Flotation of the future ALK-Abelló share is expected within approximately two years, subject to continued satisfactory development of the pipeline and satisfactory conditions on the financial markets.

ALK-Abelló and Schering-Plough Corporation announce an agreement to collaborate in conducting a clinical trial of an ALK-Abelló tablet-based immunotherapy for the treatment of allergy symptoms caused by grass pollens. The agreement is terminated in 2004, where after ALK-Abelló continues this work by itself.


2001
ALK-Abelló announces an ambitious pipeline consisting of a number of promising future products. The company's most important development objectives are:

  • Improved delivery systems: Injectables replaced or supplemented by convenient sublingual tablets
  • Improved active ingredients: Biological extracts replaced or supplemented by recombinant allergens for improved safety and efficacy

ALK-Abelló launches the ADVIA Centaur® immunoassay Specific IgE Assay in cooperation with Bayer Diagnostics.


2000
By the establishment of a new company in Hong Kong, ALK-Abelló enters the Chinese market. The acquisition of Center Laboratories further consolidates ALK-Abelló's position on the American market.
The acquisition also includes license rights for 25 patents for recombinant allergens.


1999
The acquisition of the American Biopol, Inc. ensures ALK-Abelló supplies of essential raw material for allergy vaccines.


1997
The ALK-Abelló Group strengthens its position as the leading allergy vaccine company when ALK-Scherax Arzneimittel GmbH in Germany becomes an associated company.


1996
The ALK-Abelló Group enters the contact allergy area and provides products for first aid treatment of anaphylactic shock.
The American production facility Meridian is acquired to meet the increasing demand for ALK-Abelló products.


1995
Through an acquisition of the Austrian company Epipharm GmbH, the ALK-Abelló Group moves into Eastern Europe.


1992
Through a merger between ALK and the Spanish company Alergia e Inmunología Abelló, S.A., the ALK-Abelló Group is established as the world leader in allergy vaccines.


1991
The Lundbeck Foundation becomes holder of the majority voting rights in the Chr. Hansen Group.


1990
The two major mite allergens are the first to be standardised in Unidades de Masa (UM), quantified by monoclonal antibodies and expressed in g/ml.


1989
Our new in vitro diagnostic kit, Magic Lite SQ Allergy System, is introduced globally. The product is the result of collaboration with Bayer Diagnostics (formerly Chiron Diagnostics and Ciba Corning Diagnostics).


1986
ALK takes over Pharmacia's product line and Vespa Laboratories, Inc., which produces source material for venom extracts.
ALK takes over the Dutch company Diephuis bv.


1985
ALK's production facilities for allergy vaccines obtain FDA approval, and the products can now be sold in the United States.


1980
International expansion begins with the establishment of subsidiaries in Northern Europe and the United States.


1979
ALK joins the Chr. Hansen Group.


1978
SQ (Standardised Quality) products are introduced. ALK is the first manufacturer of standardised allergen extracts. This leads to the vaccine product line Alutard.


1976
In cooperation with the Protein Laboratory and the Copenhagen University Hospital, ALK conducts the first scientific allergen standardisation project - Danish Allergen Standardisation 1976 (DAS 76). The purpose is to characterise and standardise allergen extracts.


1964
The production of allergen extracts has grown to such a scale that ALK A/S is established as an independent company.


1923
Allergologisk Laboratorium, København (ALK) is established as a niche production of allergen extracts at a Danish pharmacy.
